Skull Pouch Knitting Tutorial
Not every pirate treasure needs a wooden chest. A few stolen coins, a strange stone found ashore, or a lucky charm might be kept in a small pouch, close at hand. This one wears a skull—a little warning to anyone tempted to peek inside.
A little black pouch with a white skull, red ribbing, and beaded yarn ties. This pouch is knitted in the round, with the skull added afterward using Swiss darning, also called duplicate stitch.
The finished pouch measures about 8 cm (3 in) wide and 12 cm (5 in) tall. The tutorial includes the knitting pattern, skull chart, and finishing steps.
You can use another yarn you like for this project. Just adjust your needle size to suit your yarn, and keep in mind that the finished size may change.
Why knit a skull pouch?
A place for small treasures – Keep coins, lucky charms, or curious little finds in a pouch with a skull standing guard.
A small project with new skills – Practice knitting in the round with circular needles and adding the skull using Swiss darning.
A gift for a fellow pirate – Give it to someone who loves skulls, treasure, sea adventures, and all things pirate, perhaps with a little something tucked inside.

“Properly practiced, knitting soothes the troubled spirit, and it doesn’t hurt the untroubled spirit either.”
